We just came back from a week long family vacation. If you are looking for a five star luxury hotel with room service after midnight, this camp is not for you. If you are looking for an affordable family vacation in a Northwestern Ontario fishing camp, keep reading. We arrived on Saturday July 8 2017 and stayed until Saturday July 15, 2017. We also rented a boat for the week. The cabin we rented was cozy yet comfortable. It easlily slept all seven of us. A barbecue was available and the view is magnificent. The camp itself does not have wifi so you will be off grid (something we wanted) but not completely disconnected. Cell service is available as is data if you need to stay in touch with the real world. If you come for fishing and wildlife you will not be disappointed. In the week we were there I saw two deer, a number of beaver, and a dozen bald eagles (I got to see one swoop in and snatch a fish out of the water) fireflies and amazing fishing. Being our first time on the lake we covered a lot of water in our rented boat trolling the shore and crisscrossing the lake. We always caught a fish when we went out. My wife caught her first smallmouth bass ever and loved the experience. Another huge plus of this camp is that the owner's brother, Larry, is a world class walleye fisherman (ranked as high as number seven n the world on the Walleye Trail). If you hire him to be your guide, you are in for a treat. He will put you on fish, you will catch a lot of fish, and as a result you will eat amazingly well after the fact. I caught my largest walleye ever thanks to Larry (it was too big to keep, so Larry tossed her back in for you to catch later). Larry's son, Beau (our girls nicknamed him Barefoot Beau) is a camp employee who always seems to be there when you need something. Happy, cheerful, and always ready, willing and able to take care of your needs. Finally a shoutout the owner Carl Snow. An amazing host and third generation owner of this camp. He has one goal and that is you have an amazing time. He achieved that goal with flying colors. Based on our experience it comes as no surprise to me that families have be returning year after year for 40 years or more. In fact we had a family in the cabin next to us from Iowa that have been coming up to Black Sturgeon Lake Camp for over 40 years. The fishing, the accomodations, the view, and the staff make this a well kept secret. I know we will be back over and over again.

it's a little outside of kenora..approx 30 mins to supplies. surprised there are no bait shops or basic supply stores in the area...reddens is 40 mins away. cabin was nice . gorgeous new kitchen , but not a single frying pan! Wifi was spotty depending on where you are, but wasn't a huge concern unless you have teenagers that can't bare to disconnect for a few hours. cabins are right on the water and facing the HOT afternoon sun..ac is too old and could barely keep up. beds are supper comfortable, but the toilet was too small. (we are tall ppl and it's low) so depending on what your looking for..it's a solid 3.5 for me! . oh and if you don't have a truck or 4x4 you can use the boat launch...we had to launch elsewhere. owners are super nice! and have kayaks and canoes for use. my dog loved it too!
